Transfer student finds welcoming faculty, hands-on learning opportunities in FSHN.

I transferred from my local community college to the University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign in my junior year to complete my undergraduate degree in Food Science and Human Nutrition (FSHN), and I am currently a first-year master's student studying FSHN and completing my dietetic internship. I have enjoyed my experience in FSHN, and I am excited to see what is to come.

ACES Undeclared allows students to explore interests before selecting a major

I have had a passion for agriculture since I was eight years old. After I expressed interest in 4-H, my mom signed me up for my first 4-H club, All Cooped Up. Throughout my ten years in Ohio 4-H, my passion for agriculture grew. During the week of our local county fair, I would spend hours holding my chickens while answering the questions of curious community members as they walked through the poultry barn.

Summer of research at U of I boosts success of community college students

URBANA, Ill. – Harrison Hall spends a lot of time staring at fungus. A senior in Crop Sciences at the University of Illinois, Hall has worked for two years in a research lab studying the fungus responsible for a devastating wheat disease. For the former IT professional, it’s perhaps an odd passion, but it came naturally after Hall entered the PRECS program through Parkland College and U of I.

Why switching majors was the best decision I could have made

My college decision relied heavily on whether the university I chose had an architecture or interior design program. Originally, I came into the University of Illinois in the architecture program. I quickly realized it wasn’t for me. The fear and anxiety that set in after that realization was astounding. You will hear over and over before and during your years at university that it’s okay to switch majors and that everything will work itself out.

ACE graduate student is 2023 Farm Foundation Agricultural Scholar recipient

URBANA, Ill. – Inder Majumdar, a graduate student in the Department of Agricultural and Consumer Economics at the University of Illinois, has been named a 2023 Farm Foundation Agricultural Scholar. This annual program is sponsored in partnership with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Economic Research Service (ERS).
