Who can participate in DSAP?

Only current sophomores (10th grade) and juniors (11th grade) high school students can apply.

Can I participate more than once?

We encourage you to re-apply if you are interested in another DSAP experience; however, second experiences are not guaranteed.

What are the eligibility requirements?

Your application essay, class rank (top 25% of their class), grades, and recommendations from teachers and counselors play a role in the selection process.

How much does the program cost?

Both programs (DSAP & AgDiscovery) are FREE of charge! Housing, meals, and supplies are provided. There is no fee to apply!

What supporting documents are required with my application?

All applicants need to turn in the following before the deadline of April 15, 2022:

  • Teacher recommendation form
  • Counselor recommendation form
  • High school unofficial or official transcript
  • Online application

Where will I be staying?

We will send you information about your dorm once you are accepted. For questions about what is allowed in your dorm room, visit our Guide for Participants and Parents page under "Items to bring"

What types of clothing should I bring?

Please see our Guide for Participants and Parents for a list of acceptable and non-acceptable articles of clothing.

I live in town. Do I have to stay in the dorms?

Yes, beyond the academic benefits of the program, DSAP & AgDiscovery programs also allow you to get a feel for what college life will be like.

What is the USDA Ag Discovery Program, and how can I apply?

It is a two-week on-campus experience designed for high school students interested in animals and the environment. Read a more detailed description and apply.

Are meals included on weekends?

Yes. The programs cover 20 meals per week, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner on Saturday and lunch and dinner on Sunday. However, you are free to check out the variety of on-campus restaurants at your own cost.

I am not a resident of the state of Illinois. Can I participate in summer programs?

Yes, we accept students who are not residents of the state of Illinois.

I am interested in animal science and/or environmental sciences. Which program should they apply to?

Your student should apply to USDA if interested in veterinary medicine. For environmental sciences, they can apply to either or both. The USDA application can be found here.

Can I apply to multiple programs?

Yes. Each requires a separate application and review process. If you are selected for more than one, you will be asked to choose.

I was accepted into the program, but I do not have a state-issued I.D. Will a school I.D. be acceptable?

No. Acceptable forms of I.D. are state-issued photo I.D., driver's license, or passport. Please visit your local DMV to obtain your I.D.
